SSR News:

July 2007
From:
George/Sling Slang Records
I've always heard complaints about the lack of a CT local original music scene. But things are basically the same as they have always been. For as long as I can remember, the scene has been, as an old friend once said, "... just below the frost-line...just dig a little, you'll find it". Venues come and go. New ones crop up. Old ones die. Musicians fade away. But some get married and have little "musician babies". Bands change their names or line up of players. Genres change flavor.
But local original music is still being written and performed, more or less, like it's always been, just under the frost line. (And, might I add, in every corner, top, bottom, and middle of the state). I know the argument about the 'good old days' when kids used to just come out to shows, whenever and where ever, and pack the VFW halls. Maybe. But I also know, more times than not, no one showed up at the next show and you're just playing for the guy that booked the band!
Sometimes we just remember the good of the 'good old days.' As long as creative people write songs and want to go out and play them, there will be a original music scene in CT. Some years you might have to dig a little deeper for it; some years not. But there will always be places to perform original music. And there will always be creative people writing new songs. And that is, from my point of view anyway, the heart and blood of what we do; we are creative people writing and performing new songs. And although I've never quite been able to figure out how to make any 'real cash' from it, the "pay-off" for me has always been, the art itself. The CT original music scene is neither here nor there. It is .... who we are, and what we do. We have always had a music scene in CT and always will. Many well deserved thanks to all of the behind the scenes people it took to get the Habitat for Humanity Benefit Show off the ground; to Chris, Dave, Scott, Matt, Dino, Jen, all bands on the bill, band-fans and friends, your dedicated work was and is much appreciated.
